Why rate limiting was decreased to 200 requests per hour, per resource?
API Rate Limiting
Have the ComicVine Gods thought about a kickstarter to raise funds to upgrade the backend infratructure so paid plans can be offered to those who need them? I have a very large collection I am currently scraping and would pay for a higher API limit or even just unlimited for a specific time period, maybe with the old 1 request per second model.
I would drop $50 - $100 on the kickstarter with the understanding that after it hits goal, within a reasonable amount of time for upgrades to be done, that I would have better access to the API for a certain frame and then if needed in the future, a pay for use structure I could take advantage of when needed. I think a lot of others would too. You could keep the free model as well for those that are fine with 200 hits an hour. This would also generate revenue for you guys in the long run. You have a lot of users utilizing that API and I would wager quite a few would be willing to get into a subscription model when needed.
