This feels like a stepdown for Denis in terms of filmmaking.

@saiyan_ross: I'd still watch the shit out of this, but I would've still liked him to prioritise on Rendezvous With Rama.

Not necessarily. I’d put Casino Royale and Skyfall above some of his weaker films, such as Enemy and Dune Part 1

If Christopher Nolan could make Batman into a masterpiece with The Dark Knight, then Villenueve has the opportunity with Bond

Both Casino Royale and Skyfall are great films IMO, and prove that Bond isn’t inherently prevented from being great. Although I wouldn’t say either of those films are masterpiece tier, I think that there’s possibility that Bond films can be high level

I’m really curious who he casts. Hopefully he goes for a more lower level or unknown actor. People throw around Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill but they’re way too famous IMO (and Cavill wouldn’t have the range)

@frozen: They should cast a lesser-known actor. James Bond, like Superman, has always been played by actors who weren't particularly well known prior to playing the character. Actors with too much prior exposure will dilute the views of audiences, they won't see Superman/Bond, they'll see X well known actor dressed up as Superman/Bond.

No i am talking about this in terms of genre. There are very few directors in the world right now who can actually make blockbuster sci fiction films. He is certainly one of them

Phew and i thought he is leaving sci fiction.

I cannot really say that Villenueve is one of my favorite directors, but I cannot deny that he has a talent for directing. Most of his movies are visual masterpieces, so I am sure that he would have a creative vision and direction for the Bond franchise.

The cast is another thing that we should be looking out for as the movie will probably be star-padded.

@ghostodoofus2:

Fully agreed. Bond should always be a lesser known actor. That’s how it’s traditionally been

I think the supporting cast will be star padded but Bond himself will be a lesser known actor, which has traditionally been the case

Yeah, I have the same feeling actually. But as you said, that's traditionally been the case, so it's better that way.

I believe that if they ever went for one of the big names which have been recently linked up with the Bond role that the movie itself would feel like a letdown as there would be quite big expectations of it. It's not that I don't want to see Tom Hardy or Idris Elba, or Henry Cavill as Bond, but it just doesn't feel like the character needs them to be in the lead in order to be intriguing.
