I respect Stan for helping to revolutionize the comic book industry but honestly, his work is just not that good compared to some writers. Especially in today's comic book world.

READ THIS:

In 1999, The Comics Journal rankedWatchmen at number 91 on its list of the Top 100 English-Language Comics of the 20th Century. Watchmen was the only graphic novel to appear on Time's 2005 "All-TIME 100 Greatest Novels" list. Time critic Lev Grossman described the story as "a heart-pounding, heartbreaking read and a watershed in the evolution of a young medium." In 2008, Entertainment Weekly placed it at number 13 on its list of the best 50 novels printed in the last 25 years, describing it as "The greatest superhero story ever told and proof that comics are capable of smart, emotionally resonant narratives worthy of the label literature."

Stan Lee or Alan Moore. Definitely Alan Moore.

If it's just the best comic book writer in general, then Jeff Smith(author of Bone) easily takes the title.

Alan Moore is way too rapey for me.

Stan Lee is awesomely generative and I love the bombastic dialog.

There are several writers who are better than both.

I'd say that Alan Moore is the better writer.

Stan Lee is a better creator, though.

Stan Lee is a revolutionary while Alan Moore has perfected the way of writing comics. Its like comparing Newton with Einstein... Both are good in what they do/did. Stan Lee opened some doors, Alan Moore used them.

There is no way Alan Moore can be considered better than Stan lee when all the skills come into play, Moore has a few small attributes that are better but Stan lee is the most revolutionary for sure, nobady beats him.

Rowling was another revolutionary. As most people have heard she basically started the whole 'novel' thing, her books were the first of their length that actually got published.

That being said she's also an incredible writer.

Christopher Paolini is probably my all time fave for high fantasy.

Also it's always going to be Morrison for me in terms of comics.

Stan Lee but Alan Moore is phenomenal too, and I also think other great writers would include Gail Simone, Scott Snyder, Robert Kirkman, Neil Gaiman, Mark Waid and many more.

Let's be honest here, guys! Without Stan Lee we wouldn't even have a lot of the awesome characters we have. Stan Lee has done a lot more for the comics, than Alan Moore has. How many fan favorite characters did Stan Lee create? Quite a few. Yes, Alan Moore did write few good stories, but Stan Lee will always be the man!

Stan Lee is a decent creator... who didn't give enough credit to people like Kirby, who made the characters better than they originally would have been.

Alan Moore. But my real vote goes to Neil Gaiman.

One can certainly argue that Lee's the more influential of the two.

But in terms of pure quality? Silver Age Marvel might have been a quantum leap from most of the comics in its time but it's still not quite as good as Swamp Thing or Watchmen.

I feel like Lee wouldn't have gotten so much credit if he didn't have people like Kirby or Ditko to watch over him and make his ideas better. If you want to see Stan's writing unleashed, look at Just Imagine, in which he reimagines several DC characters, from genuinely interesting (Batman, Robin) to silly (Flash, Superman, basically everyone else lol)

Moore may have had less influence on comics in general, but his comics are of far better quality and frankly broke more ground during his time than Lee ever really did, to be honest. In terms of pure writing skill, Moore's always been far better.
