The Steel Jaw Army is the military force of the steel jaw race. Here is a number of stories that feature the Steel Jaws and their members.
The Army Invades Havania
It is year 2 of the Steel Jaw Army's invasions and things are really starting up. The factory has been mass producing steel jaws according to Steel Jaw X's order. And in efficient time, the army was once again ready for the next invasion. The Steel Jaw Army was readied as the next planet had been chosen. The planet is called Havania by its natives. Steel Jaw X led the army into the invasion ship and they made their way to the planet.
After an extensive space travel, the Steel Jaw invasion ship reached the planet. The ship's massive size was able to cast a shadow over the planet's capital city. The natives were in terror at the sight of the massive ship hovering over their city. Steel Jaw X then announced for the invasion to begin. The hundreds of steel jaw warriors then descended on the city. The steel jaws decimated the city, killing any organic life form they found. The planet itself is virtually defenseless, with no major military force to fight against the steel jaws. Eventually, several Green Lanterns arrived in an attempt to defend the planet. However, the army was simply too big and powerful for a few green lanterns to take on and they were quickly overwhelmed, with 2 of them being brutally killed by Steel Jaw X himself. The 3rd Lantern decided to call for backup as there was no way he alone could stop the invasion. However, just as he was sending the distress signal, Supreme Commander Crimson found him and killed him. The Steel Jaws continued to decimate the planet and its organic life. Eventually, Steel Jaw X decided that it was time to purge the planet of its organic life. He quickly activated the Anti Life Ray and all organic life was wiped out, leaving the planet a barren wasteland. As was the standard procedure, Steel Jaw X left a battalion of steel jaws led by Commander SJC10 on the planet. The rest of the army then went back to Melton.
Right after the Steel Jaw Army left the planet, a group of Green Lanterns arrived to provide backup to the previous Green Lanterns that had already tried to defend the planet. However, they were too late as the planet had already been purged of all life. SJC10 and his battalion saw the Green Lanterns and imdeiatly flew in the attack them. The Lanterns were overpowered by steel jaws and realized that the planet had already been lost. So the Lanterns quickly retreated back into space.
Darksteel's Lust For Power
On Melton, steel jaw Commander Darksteel was the steel jaw in charge of keeping Melton running while the Steel Jaw Army was gone. Darksteel had always wanted more. He hated how he had to stay on Melton while the other steel jaws get to invade other planets. He also believed that his status as a regular commander was not good enough. He should have been chosen as the supreme commander over Crimson. As the commander in charge of Melton, he had to make sure the steel jaw factory kept making a consistent supply of steel jaws. This was not the job he wanted and desperately wished for something better.
One day, Crimson came to Melton ahead of the rest of the steel jaw army. She was tasked with checking up on everything before the Steel Jaw Army came back. Darksteel took this as an opportunity to take over as supreme commander. Darksteel had his steel jaws surround Crimson. Crimson demanded to know what Darksteel was doing. He tells her that her status as Supreme commander is over as he is taking that role. This angers Crimson and she barates Darksteel about his breaking of the steel jaw hierarchy. But before Crimson could finish, Darksteel attacks her. The 2 steel jaws fight an epic battle. Crimson is able to use her superior fighting skills to overwhelm Darksteel, proving why she was chosen as the supreme commander in the 1st place. Darksteel has no choice but submit to Crimson's power. Darksteel's attempt to become supreme commander has failed and he cowers before Crimson as she states that his punishment will be most severe.
Steel Jaw X 's Upgrade
And so it came about that the army of Steel Jaw X came into conflict with the other cosmic villain, Brainiac. During an invasion of the planet Krod, The Steel Jaw Army came into contact with one of Brainiac's ships, which was led by one of Brainiac's robot avatars. The 2 villainous groups battled for control over the planet. Steel Jaw X personally fought Brainiac and easily beat him in combat. However, Brainiac had a high powered energy cannon fired at Steel Jaw X. This weapon was powerful enough to blast off part of Steel Jaw X's body. The Steel Jaw Army quickly raced in to destroy the weapon while Steel Jaw X finished off Brainiac's robot avatar by firing his laser at it. He then used his laser to destroy what was left of Brainiac's ship, which had been partially destroyed by the Steel Jaw Army's mob attack. After that, the steel jaws continued their invasion of Krod and succeeded in wiping out all life on the planet.
When the steel jaws got back to Melton, Steel Jaw X is still damaged from his brainiac battle. Steel Jaw X realized that he needed a new body that was more resilient to high powered weapons if he wanted to preserve his rule as supreme leader of the steel jaws. The regular meltonium metal used to make all the steel jaws including Steel Jaw X's current body was no longer sufficient for him, especially if he is going to be fighting any more cosmic rivals like Brainiac. Steel Jaw X needed an enhanced version of Meltonium that was ever stronger and more heat resistant. So Steel Jaw X began experimenting with various metal combinations, using his laser to test the strength of each metal combination. Eventually he came across the perfect formula that was able to resist his laser completely. Steel Jaw X then had his new body made using this metallic formula that he called enhanced meltonium. Steel Jaw X's soul was transferred into the new body and his weapon systems were transferred to the new body as well. Steel Jaw X's original body was then sent to be melted down to provide more meltonium for new steel jaws.
The Tragic Fate OF SJ18
SJ18 was notable for being the steel jaw that was with SJ98 (Steel Jaw X) when he 1st proposed the idea of rising up against their Meltonian creators. He helped SJ98 gather the other steel jaws so he could share his vision. However, after these events, what happened to SJ18? Here is the tragic story of the steel jaw who was once Friends with Steel Jaw X.
After Steel Jaw X became the supreme leader of the steel jaws, SJ18 thought he would be given a high regard and status within the Steel Jaw Army. However, Steel Jaw X seemed to have forgotten about SJ18. SJ18 was never chosen to be a commander and was assigned to Darksteel's battalion. For the 1st few years, SJ18 was nothing more then a regular warrior steel jaw and was never acknowledged by any higher ranked steel jaws. Eventually, SJ18 began to think about how he initially wanted liberation and freedom from his Meltonian creators and thought participating in wiping them out would see his get peace and freedom. However, he is once again being treated as a simple soldier that only serves to take orders from commanding steel jaws.
One day, SJ18 decided that he had enough of being an extension of a military might and wanted the freedom to live as he wanted. However, Darksteel had become exceedingly cruel towards the steel jaws he commanded as he was compensating for the fact that his plan to become supreme commander failed. When Darksteel found out about SJ18's plan to leave the Steel Jaw Army, he decided to throw him into work as a miner, where SJ18 would be forced to mine the raw meltonium ore and treated even worse then when he was a warrior. Eventually after several more years of mining work, SJ18 simple couldn't take it. He had to get out of the terrible conditions he was in. So at night, SJ18 attempted to sneak off of Melton and go to any place where he could be free. However, another steel jaw miner saw this and reported it to Darksteel. Darksteel went after SJ18 personally and brutally beat him up for his betrayal. He then had SJ18 taken before Steel Jaw X himself. Darksteel explained what SJ18 was attempting to do. Steel Jaw X saw that it was SJ18 and demanded to know why he would attempt to desert the Steel Jaw Army. SJ18 was not afraid of Steel Jaw X and went into a passionate speech about how he wanted freedom from those who oppress him and how Steel Jaw X had became just as bad as the Meltonians and maybe even worse. He told Steel Jaw X that his status as supreme leader has corrupted him and turned him into the very thing he was initially fighting against back when he was still SJ98. SJ18's speech enraged Steel Jaw X and he brutally grabbed him with his jaws and took him to the furnace where molten metal was used to make the steel jaws. Steel Jaw X accused SJ18 of high treason and decided to punish him by melting him down. As Steel Jaw X threw SJ18 into the furnace, SJ18 said "I thought i knew you but i guess i was wrong". SJ18 disappeared into the liquid meltonium as Steel Jaw X stared completely unfazed, ending the tragic story of SJ18, the last noble steel jaw.
