Hellooooo, peeps! It is time for Character Creation Contest #155, and you are either going to love it or hate it. I had a lot of fun reading your stories for Heironymous for CCC 150, and I think I'd like to do that sort of thing again. Lemme 'splain...

A few years ago, I posted .Redline - A 2004 Movie Based On My Character. In short: in 2002, a coworker asked if he could use one of my characters in a college film. I described the character to him, and he ran with it from there (no pun intended). The result was Redline, which he finished by 2004.

Redline is a guy whose speed comes from a speed suit, and the movie is - as you might expect from a college film - a glorious piece of low-budget adventure. Which is where you come in.

To be honest, I just want you guys to watch the movie, and hopefully have as much fun with it as I do.

BUT THEN... I want your to write something in this movie's universe. Your story has to feature at least one of the five central characters (from left to right as seen on the movie still above:

  • Tyler Williams (designed the speed suit, and he's the villain)
  • Mike Powers (Redline)
  • Jim Parker (mechanical whiz, Mike's friend)
  • Sam Black (detective)
  • Sara Cross (head of Panotech, Mike's love interest)

So, yeah, you can use whatever and whoever you want from the movie, but you have to feature at least one of those five characters and your original character, and pick up from something in the movie. Are you writing the sequel? Are you telling a story that falls between scenes somewhere? Up to you.

The rules:

Me in 2002
Me in 2002

Who is welcome to write in this contest? EVERYONE! Yes, that means you! Join us, and let's have some fun. Once we reach the deadline, we spend two weeks voting on the entries. The winner gets to pick the next contest! Cheers.

Oh, and by the way! I cringe at it a little, but I really love that I have a cameo in this movie (17:41-17:57). Pieced together from thirty-five takes of me busting out laughing. :)

Remember: deadline is Sunday, June 29th, @11:59PM New York time (click the link if you're unsure) [4:59AM, June 30th, London time, or 1:59PM, June 30th, Sydney, Australia time]. I'm glad you're here!

Remember: ANYONE can enter! So, join us! In the meantime, stay safe, be good to each other, and I'll see you in two weeks! :^D

Issue Zero

Chris Bishop stepped out of the green limousine and looked up at the massive red Neftlix sign. “This is insane.”

“Something the matter, Mr. Bishop?” asked the driver.

“It’s a dream right?” Chris asked as the door slammed. “I can wake up and...”

“Welcome to Neftlix!” shouted a woman with a perky voice and two perky chest assistants to match. “Hi Mr. Bishop, I’m Candy, Head Co-Technical Assistant to the Deputy Section Coordinator of Digital Acquistions and Infra-Licensing, we spoke on the phone.”

“Hello.”

“Did you have a nice flight in from Virginia?”

“I've never flown in a private jet before” Chris replied as he kept pace with the young woman who walked them into the massive building. “It was...”

“Okay, here’s your pass,” Candy handed him a lanyard she scooped up from a table. “So you’ll be in this briefing room on th...”

“Can you slow down for a sec,” Chris screeched to a halt to catch his breath. Candy pivoted on her ridiculous heels and waited for him.

“Everything okay, Mr Bishop?” she asked as she quickly tapped away on her phone.

“Am I dreaming?” Chris asked bluntly.

“Dreams don’t come with lanyards,” she smiled. “And if it seems fast, well this is streaming, and you’re either fast or you’re forgotten. Are you ready?”

“I think so,” Chris gulped. Candy opened the large double doors to a massive conference room, a large black table with eighteen people in suits around it and a man in a white suit standing next to a cardboard cutout of Redline, a character Chris had created.

“Big hand for our guest folks!” cheered the man in white and applause filled the room. “This guy!”

Chris awkwardly waved as he was ushered towards the front.

“What a talent, what a guy!” the man gushed. “So, Mr Bishop, or can I call you Christopher?”

“Chris...and you are?”

“Theo Devlin-Sodaras, co-CEO and co-content officer here at Neftlix.” He enthusiastically shook Chris’ hand. “Love your stuff, love, it! So, if you coul...”

“You’re making Redline a show?” Chris pointed at the cutout. “Is that Reynold Ryans?

“Oh yeah big plans big stars,” Theo pointed at a stack of paper. “And if you’d just si...”

“You want Reynold Ryan as Redline?” Chris pondered the idea as he gazed at the cutout. “What about Harry Lawtey? Or Bobby Mease?”

“Great, fine, brilliant, just need you to sig...”

“Because Redline is kind of an ever...”

“Christopher!” Theo shouted and clapped a hand on his back. “What we need is just a signature, right there, and six more spots, and the two point five million is yours. Then we can begin production and advertising.”

Chris nearly choked. “Two point five million dollars.”

“Not enough? Okay let's just bump up to three, and you can go, and we can start.” Theo smiled.

“What will my role be?”

Theo’s smiled evaporated. “Um I think you misunderstand what's happening here.”

“You want to make a show.”

“Correct.”

“Based on my characters.”

“Two for two, and just a sig...”

“But I have nothing to do with it?” Chris pondered. “But if it's a hit, then...”

“If you sign...”

“I have to have a think ab...”

“WHAT’S TO THINK ABOUT?!?” Theo yelled. “We flew you here, you’re going to get three million, $#!+ let’s make it four million, and Redline gets made, new A.I shows e...”

“A.I is writing the show?”

“It writes everything! And if you sign...”

“But I wrote a dozen stories for Redline, why not get me to write it?” Chris asked.

“Time, speed, and we’re giving you four million dollars for your stories!” Theo snapped. “We got everyone else on board, and if you sign, we can put out episode one by seven pm, make it top ten in a week.”

{...im, you listening?}

Jim Parker looked up from his Redline comic book and grabbed the radio. {Some punk kid named Raf Furry has done an unauthorized comic about you}

{What?}

{It’s like a terrible origin story, art is terrible, it’s terrible all round. It's like a low budget student script.}

{You can read later; can you track my position?}

Jim put the comic down and began typing away on his computer. {Locking in your GPS}

{Alert the Ridge City P.D}

{Forwarding your location to Detective Sam Black as we speak, what's going on?}

{I have a visual on Sidestreaker.}

{Be careful, Miii...um, sorry, Redline}

The radio went silent and Jim picked the comic back up.

@batkevin74: LMAO from the start when I saw my name! This is definitely an I wish! I'd love it, and I imagine the cast of this college flick would be pretty stoked too! :)

Edit: Oh, wait! I'm in it too, ever-so-briefly. :}

Not sure I will get around to this one......

Today is my birthday and my Brother is in town to hang out.

He will be here for about a week, so I will be busy.

Now I am not saying I am 100% out, it's just I will be very busy for about a week!
