Artist Show-Off Showdown #49: The Great Lantern Plague!!!

The unchecked power that fuels the Lantern rings in the DC universe has started to seep into other fictional universes. Whether comics, anime, cartoons or pulp sci-fi/fantasy fiction, no universe remains unaffected by the plague of Lantern energy!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to draw any non-DC Comics character as one of the shades of the Lantern spectrum. The color that you choose is totally up to you; it doesn’t necessarily need to follow DC’s emotional spectrum logic. Be as creative as your imagination and pencil will allow.

Examples:

1. The Incredible Hulk, Scarlet Witch or the Thing as a Red Lantern

2. Godzilla, King Kong or some other Monster Universe kaiju as a Green Lantern

3. Daenerys Targaryen from the Game of Thrones lore as a White Lantern

4. Gollum from the Lord of the Rings Universe as an Orange Lantern

5. Homer Simpson as a Yellow Lantern

6. Scooby Doo, Thelma, Shaggy or any of the Mystery Machine gang as Blue Lanterns

7. Mace Windu from Star Wars fame as a Purple Lantern

8. Barbie as Pink Lantern/Star Sapphire

9. Cruella DeVille, Maleficent or even Elvira as a Black Lantern

Etc., etc. These are only a few examples. The possibilities are endless.

Figured I'd have a little fun with Deadpool using my old graffiti style. Or maybe I should call him Deadpool Lantern?

@magistros: that's a nice pin up! great idea as well. Here's something I came up with.

@blackdog2009: This is awesome! I thought about doing the Kingpin as a yellow lantern, but got swept away in all of the Deadpool/Wolverine anticipation.

@jatinder: very nice... coincidentally there is a squirrel Green Lantern called Ch'P .... I'm not sure who came first, him or Rocket Racoon but both are very cool characters. I like animal superheroes!

I was stuck in an international online meeting that switched to Japanese. So, while bored i decided to play along a little and imagine Loki in her female form as a GL

@chimeroid: Very nice! It's good to know that I'm not the only one who sketches whenever an opportunity presents, no matter where you are. That got me into trouble on more than one occasion at work -- in my defense, it was a boring financials meeting -- but oh well! Can't so easily stifle a passion.

Thank you all for sharing your artwork. Green Lantern is one of my favorite characters, so it's always fun to see different interpretations of the character.

If anyone else would like to submit a piece for this showdown, please feel free to do so. I intend to get the voting thread up and running by noon tomorrow (Saturday; Pacific Standard Time) and will include any submissions that are posted between now and then.

@chimeroid: Cool, Nowdays I don't get to travel on trains/ buses as much as I used to but enjoy drawing on the move.

I know I am late so if I can't be entered I understand.
